The outdated locomotive sanding system at the Metra/Union Pacific Railroad M19 Diesel Shop was replaced with an upgraded system that wastes less sand, requires less maintenance, and fills day bins more quickly. The new conveying line features air movers installed approximately every 5 feet that gradually send the sand through the line, with sand now left in the line between conveying cycles.
