Project Name:
Metra Z-100 Bridge Project
Start/Scheduled Date of Completion:
November 2017 - Dec 1 2020
SQN's Role on Project:
Field Engineering
Project Scope:
Metra is replacing a 137-year-old single-track bridge across the Fox River in Elgin with a two-track structure. The Metra Fox River bridge (known as bridge number "Z-100") was originally constructed in 1881 and is the only single-track segment on the Milwaukee District West Line and creates a bottleneck for train traffic. The track carries both Metra commuter trains and Canadian Pacific Railroad freight trains, and the construction project will bring the bridge up to modern standards and will allow for more efficient traffic through the area.
